From our reviews

The editor’s picks

These are the saunas and gear we'd buy with our own money this month. Each card says who it suits.

Nootka Cube Sauna

Upgrade pick

Nootka Cube Sauna

“Built in-house from cedar, this five-seat cube is a sauna you buy once and pass down.”

If budget were no object, we'd choose the Cube, and it's our anchor pick even at its price. Nootka builds it in-house in British Columbia from inch-and-a-half Western Red Cedar. The room seats five, and Nootka says it reaches 194°F in 30 to 45 minutes. Its LTE controller lets you start preheating from your phone on the drive home.

Sun Home Solstice 2-Person Infrared Sauna

Our pick

Sun Home Solstice 2-Person Infrared Sauna

“This cabin runs nine far-infrared heaters off a standard wall plug.”

For most homes, the Solstice is our pick. It plugs into a standard 120V outlet, so no electrician stands between you and your first session, and its nine far-infrared heaters carry third-party-verified low EMF. It's sized for two. Buy it if you want the health habit without the renovation. By our pricing it undercuts the full-spectrum flagships by thousands.

HigherDOSE Infrared Sauna Blanket

Pick for renters

HigherDOSE Infrared Sauna Blanket

“Renters can fold this infrared blanket under a bed after each session.”

HigherDOSE's blanket shows you don't need a backyard for heat therapy. The company says it reaches 175°F with low-EMF heating and non-toxic materials. It folds away and costs a tenth of a cabin. You'll need a hot room for löyly and 90°C air, and the blanket still gets you to a heavy sweat several times a week. The cohort studies found the benefit grew with frequency. It's our pick for a renter's first heat setup.

Nootka 8ft Barrel review: is the clear-cedar barrel worth the premium?

Nootka's cedar barrel runs in hotel courtyards from Fairmont to Four Seasons. We checked what it's made of and what it costs all-in, then compared it with the cheaper kits.

“Most barrels arrive as a half-ton of flat-pack you assemble yourself. For buyers in its delivery range, Nootka brings the sauna by truck and builds it on site.”
