“You buy this inch-and-a-half cedar cube once and pass it down.”
The Cube is expensive, and it's still our anchor pick. We'd buy it if budget were no object. Nootka builds it in-house from inch-and-a-half Western Red Cedar and rates it for five adults across two bench tiers. According to Nootka, the 9 kW heater brings the room to 194°F in 30 to 45 minutes. Add the $375 LTE or Wi-Fi controller and you can start the preheat from your phone on the drive home.

Outside
Black metal panels come standard on the Cube. The pitch carries rain and snow off the side away from the door.
The roof runs out over it, so you get a dry step and a cedar bench outside the door.
Order it on the left or the right and the roof slopes away from it either way. Full glass costs $500 more than the cedar door.
The 10 mm tempered glass sits in the side wall over the heater. Its bottom edge clears the upper bench.
The Cube stands 8 feet tall on a 6 ft 5 in by 7 ft 10 in footprint and weighs 2,350 pounds. Give it a level pad that drains well.
Set the temperature and the session length here. The standard panel starts a session on the spot, and the LTE controller, a $375 upgrade, adds Nootka's app so the heat can come on while you're still driving home. Nootka steers outdoor buyers away from Wi-Fi because the signal struggles to reach a sauna across a yard.
Inside
Up top, 33.5 inches off the floor, an L-shaped bench 18.5 inches deep sits in the hottest air. The 17-inch lower tier runs gentler and works as a step.
It runs on a 240V, 50A circuit, and Nootka says it takes the Cube to 194°F in 30 to 45 minutes without naming a starting temperature. The bench layout leaves no floor for a wood stove, so the Cube is electric only.
At 30 by 60 inches it's twice the size of the barrel's rear window.
The Lights package puts two warm strips under the seats. They light the floor and keep the glare out of your eyes. Nootka bundles them with its controller upgrades, starting at $215.
Nootka's essentials kit puts this cedar bucket and ladle in the box with a sand timer. It comes free with a sauna: add the kit to your cart and the SAUNAMONTHLY discount takes it off in the cart.

- How long does the Nootka Cube take to heat up?
- Nootka's comparison table says its 9 kW electric heater brings the Cube to 194°F in 30–45 minutes, though the same page also quotes 30–40 and 25–30 minutes. Nootka doesn't say what starting temperature any of those figures assume. To start the preheat from your phone, add the LTE or Wi-Fi controller for $375.
- What electrical does the Cube need?
- The Nootka Cube needs a hardwired 240V circuit, and an electrician has to install it. It's electric only, because the two-tier bench layout leaves no room for a wood stove. If you want to burn wood, look at Nootka's 10ft barrel.
- How many people fit in the Nootka Cube?
- Nootka rates the Cube for five adults on two bench tiers inside its 6'5" x 7'10" footprint. Nootka's drawing shows an L-shaped upper bench 18.5 inches deep above a lower step.
- Is delivery and installation included?
- It depends on where you live. Nootka's Cube page says that in Canada it delivers the Cube unassembled and in a lot of cases offers on-site assembly, and it quotes your options once you enter a postal code. US orders ship from Nootka's US facility, and either way you hire your own electrician to connect the heater.
- Should I get the Cube or a barrel?
- Choose the Nootka Cube for full-height walls and a fifth seat on two bench tiers, with the metal roof and a big window included in the price.
