Almost Heaven Barrel Sauna
Almost Heaven Shenandoah 4-6 Person Barrel Sauna with Changing Room
4.3 out of 5Sauna Monthly verdictAt about 7 by 10 feet, the Shenandoah is Almost Heaven's longest barrel, and it splits into a six-foot sauna room and a four-foot changing room. Select Saunas says its 8kW Harvia electric heater reaches 180°F in about an hour, and the barrel is 1-3/8" ball-and-socket lumber with stainless bands.

Good to know: Select Saunas' compare-at price is $12,752, and Almost Heaven's own store sells it for $10,650. Standard 8kW heater needs 240V/40A hardwired; the light runs on 110V plug-in. Select ships it by flatbed without a liftgate at 1,750 lb, so plan on three or four people to offload or add driver offload at checkout. Select's page quotes lead times of 3 to 8 weeks, and Almost Heaven's quotes 8 to 12. Almost Heaven lists it at 82⅜"W x 119"D x 85⅞"H, and Select's larger figures don't add up against its own walls. Select's text lists rustic fir alongside rustic and clear cedar but sells one version. Almost Heaven's own heater upgrades are a 9 kW Spirit, a 9 kW Virta, a 10.5 kW Cilindro and a Harvia M3 wood stove, and Select sells the M3 only as a separate product.

Sauna Monthly verdict
“Buy this barrel if you want a four-foot changing room out of the weather.”
Almost Heaven gives four feet of a ten-foot barrel to a changing room, so you undress out of the weather and the hot-room door opens onto shelter. Select Saunas says the 8 kW Harvia reaches 180°F in about an hour on a 40A circuit, and inch-and-three-eighths walls hold that heat through a long session. Delivery takes more planning than anything else in the range, since 1,750 pounds arrive on a flatbed with no liftgate and you build the kit yourself. At $7,455 it costs $1,845 less than the cheapest Nootka 10ft, which seats more people and has nowhere to change.

This page gathers what Almost Heaven publishes about the Shenandoah, checked Oct 7, 2026, and adds up what it costs to install. Our verdict on it runs in Almost Heaven Saunas review: how the indoor rooms and the barrels compare.
Who should buy the Shenandoah?
The Shenandoah suits a household of up to four that bathes outdoors through the winter and wants somewhere dry to change. Almost Heaven gives four of the barrel's ten feet to a changing room with no heater, and the layout puts the hot-room door inside it. Almost Heaven rates the hot room for up to six and lists a 63¾-inch bench in it.
A group of six that wants every foot heated should look at the Nootka 10ft. If you bathe in twos or threes and the yard is tight, Almost Heaven's 6 by 6 foot Pinnacle costs $2,152 less.
What does it take to install?
Lay the base first. The barrel rests on plastic cradles, and our permits guide explains why a barrel's base has to be level and drain well. Select Saunas lists the assembled sauna at 1,600 lbs, and Almost Heaven's 82⅜ by 119 inch footprint covers about 68 square feet before you add any margin.
The standard 8 kW Harvia hardwires to a 240V/40A circuit, and Almost Heaven's own page lists 40 or 45 amps depending on the heater you choose. The interior light plugs into an ordinary 110V/15A outlet. Almost Heaven also sells the Shenandoah with a Harvia M3 wood stove, and with it the 240V circuit drops out, though you'll add the chimney kit and a fire to tend.
Delivery takes the most planning. Select Saunas ships the 1,750 lb kit on a flatbed with no liftgate, so you'll need three or four people or a rented forklift to unload it, or the driver offload sold at checkout. Its page quotes lead times from 3 to 8 weeks, and Almost Heaven's quotes 8 to 12. Select Saunas says two people with mid-level handyman skills generally assemble it in 6 to 8 hours.
Select Saunas prints slightly larger dimensions, 84 by 120 by 89 inches, that don't add up against its own wall thickness, while Almost Heaven's do. Ask Select Saunas which version it's shipping before you pour the pad.
What does the Shenandoah cost all in?
| Cost | Amount | Where the figure comes from |
|---|---|---|
| List price | $7,455 | The regular price at Almost Heaven, recorded Oct 7, 2026. |
| Flatbed freight | $0 | Select Saunas' product page says free continental US shipping, and its general policy says most US orders ship free. |
| Driver offload (optional) | Priced at checkout | Select Saunas sells it at checkout and doesn't print the price on the product page. Three or four helpers cost nothing. |
| 240V/40A circuit | $600–$2,500 | Our permits guide's range for a dedicated 240V circuit. Your panel's spare capacity and the length of the run set the price. |
| Level base of about 68 sq ft | $410–$600 | Angi puts a new concrete slab at $4 to $18 a square foot and a 10 by 10 foot shed slab at about $600. The low end is our calculation at Angi's $6 average. Gravel or pavers can come in lower. |
| Assembly | $0 with two people | Select Saunas puts it at 6 to 8 hours. Almost Heaven sells professional installation from $1,400 on its own site. |
By our calculation the Shenandoah comes to about $8,500 to $10,600 at Select Saunas' price once you add a $600 to $2,500 circuit and a $410 to $600 slab. Offload and tax come on top. On Oct 7, 2026, Select Saunas listed it at $7,455 against a $12,752 compare-at price, and Almost Heaven's own site asked $10,650.
This page draws on Select Saunas' Shenandoah listing and Almost Heaven's own Shenandoah page, both read Oct 7, 2026, our catalogue's listings for the three alternatives, Angi's concrete slab cost guide and our backyard permits guide. The pad area and the all-in range are our arithmetic.

What to know before you buy
Rustic red cedar, electric, 240V hardwired. These decide whether it suits your space and your electrical panel.
- CedarCedar resists rot and insects naturally, and it's aromatic. It conducts heat poorly, so the benches stay cool enough to sit on in a hot room.
- ElectricAn electric heater holds a steady temperature on its thermostat and needs no chimney. Many models add app or timer control.
- 240V HardwiredA hardwired model needs a dedicated 240V circuit installed by an electrician. Build roughly $600–$2,500 into your total budget for it.

How it compares
We'd weigh the Shenandoah against these 3 models from our catalogue.
- Nootka 10ft Barrel Sauna
$9,300–$11,674
Nootka's 10ft barrel heats all ten feet as one hot room that Nootka rates for six, in 1.5-inch Western Red Cedar with a 9 kW heater. It costs $9,300 to $11,674, and Nootka assembles it on site in some areas. There's nowhere dry to change.
- Almost Heaven Pinnacle 4-Person Barrel Sauna
$5,303
Almost Heaven's Pinnacle is a 6 by 6 foot barrel for four at $5,303. Almost Heaven fits a 6 kW Harvia KIP60B on a 240V/30A circuit and a 64-inch bench along each side. It skips the changing room and needs a smaller circuit.
- Barrel Outdoor Sauna - 6 Person
$6,299
Redwood Outdoors builds its six-person barrel from thermally modified Canadian hemlock for $6,299, and Redwood rates it for four to six. The price includes a 6 kW Harvia KIP, and Redwood sells Harvia and Homecraft upgrades.

Before you buy
- How big is the Almost Heaven Shenandoah?
- Almost Heaven lists the Shenandoah at about 82 inches wide by 119 long and 86 high assembled. Inside, its sauna room runs 63¾ inches deep and its changing room about 46, each with a bench. Select Saunas prints slightly larger figures that don't add up against its own wall thickness, so build the base to Almost Heaven's figures and confirm them with the seller.
- How many people fit in the Shenandoah?
- Almost Heaven sells the Shenandoah as a four-person barrel and says its sauna room holds up to six. The changing room is separate and has no heater of its own.
- What electrical service does the Shenandoah need?
- The Shenandoah's standard 8 kW Harvia heater hardwires to a 240V, 40-amp circuit, so budget for an electrician. Its interior light plugs into an ordinary 110V, 15-amp outlet. If you'd rather skip the circuit, Almost Heaven's own store sells a version with a Harvia M3 wood stove for $14,220.
- How is the Shenandoah delivered?
- Select Saunas ships the Shenandoah on a flatbed truck with no liftgate, and its page quotes lead times from 3 to 8 weeks. The shipment weighs about 1,750 pounds, so plan on three or four people to unload it piece by piece. You can also rent a forklift or buy the driver offload, which Select prices only at checkout. It comes as a kit you'll assemble yourself.
- Should I buy the Shenandoah or the Nootka 10ft barrel?
- The Nootka 10ft barrel is the better buy for a bigger group, or if you live where Nootka's own builders assemble it on site. It puts all ten feet into one hot room that seats six, in 1.5-inch Western Red Cedar with a 9 kW heater, for $9,300 to $11,674. For $7,455, the Shenandoah gives you a hot room for four to six in 1-3/8-inch lumber with an 8 kW Harvia, because four of its ten feet go to a changing room. Buy it if you want somewhere dry to change and you'd rather keep the $1,845 difference.
- What is the changing room good for?
- The Shenandoah's changing room gives you somewhere dry and sheltered to undress and cool down between rounds, so you don't cross the yard in a towel in January. The layout puts the hot-room door inside the changing room, which lets less heat escape each time someone steps out than a door straight to the yard would. The changing room has its own bench and no heater.
- Can the Shenandoah run on wood instead of electricity?
- Yes. Almost Heaven's own store sells the Shenandoah with a Harvia M3 wood stove kit for $14,220, in place of the 8 kW electric heater. Select Saunas lists the M3 only as a separate product and doesn't say it will swap it in. Going wood-fired drops the 240V circuit and the electrician from the budget, though you'll add a chimney and tend the fire for the best part of an hour before each session.

Barrel vs. cube: which outdoor sauna shape heats better?
The barrel's curve came from cooperage, and it encloses less air than a box with the same benches. The cube answers with headroom and two bench tiers, and its flat walls take bigger glass. Pick by how many people you heat for and how long you'll wait.
