Who should buy the Luminar 5-Person?
The Luminar 5-Person suits a household that wants infrared heat outdoors and has a level spot near the house for a 1,070 lb cabin. Sun Home rates it for five and lists the outside at 82.25 by 51.75 inches, 84 inches tall. It tops out at 170°F, and since the heaters warm your skin directly, sessions run longer and cooler than in a stove-heated room.
Two people who bathe together can save $2,900 with the two-seat Luminar. If you'd rather have stones and steam, Nootka's Cube costs about the same and Nootka says it reaches 194°F.
What does it take to install?
Sun Home asks for a completely level, load-bearing surface with drainage, and for a pad that carries at least 1,270 lbs. That figure matches the crate's shipping weight and comes in under the cabin with five people inside, so we'd build the pad stronger. Sun Home's spec sheet and manual ask for 8 inches at the sides and back with 12 above, though the product page gives smaller gaps. The glass door needs room to swing fully open too. By our calculation the cabin covers about 30 square feet, and a pad with 6 inches spare on each side, as Sun Home asks, comes to about 42.
The circuit costs more than the pad. Sun Home specifies a dedicated 240V/30A GFCI circuit ending in a NEMA L6-30 twist-lock outlet, with the cabin at least 5 feet from other electrical devices. An electrician will price the run from your panel to the pad.
Sun Home ships the Luminar free within the US, palletized to the curb, and moving it from there to the pad is up to you. Sun Home says two or more people assemble the panels in about half a day. It also says the cabin runs in air below 25°F, and that cold air lengthens the warm-up.

Outside
It's thick double-pane glass. Sun Home says the tint adds privacy and keeps the sun from fading the cedar inside.
Dark aluminum boards wrap all four walls, and Sun Home lines the room inside with Canadian red cedar.
It's tinted glass hung from its back edge, with a 24-inch opening and a cedar bar to pull it shut from inside.
An LED strip under its edge lights the walls at night. Sun Home's manual says to keep snow from piling up on it.
Its 8-foot cord leaves the roof at the back wall and ends in a NEMA L6-30 twist-lock plug. It draws 7,200 watts on a dedicated GFCI circuit, and skipping the licensed electrician voids the warranty.
Inside
Four line the back wall and two the right end, each behind its own contoured backrest. The curved slats keep you off the heater and let its warmth through.
They face the benches, so the heat reaches you from the front as well as from behind. Sun Home counts ten full-spectrum heaters in all.
Three sit behind slats under the benches, facing your calves. The other two lie flat under the floor grates.
The long one runs the back wall and the short one the right end, both open underneath on slatted legs. The cabin seats five.
Strips along the backrests and under the seats add accent light. Sun Home's app runs the lights and the heat over 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, and music plays over Bluetooth or from a USB stick.
It sets the temperature from 90 to 170°F in 5-degree steps and has ports to charge a phone. One button switches between the accent strips inside and the lights outside.
Sit back and most of the front is window. Sun Home quotes 15 to 20 minutes to heat up, or an hour and more below 40°F.
